There are significant differences between Assistance and Therapy Dogs. Please follow the chart below to see if a dog is right for you.
Please understand that a puppy is temperament tested at 7 weeks to determine its suitability. It comes home with you at 9 weeks and it is a puppy, not pre programmed, not with a chip inserted and NOT a Therapy or Assistance Dog.
It is your responsibility to work with a trainer to train the puppy in the first 12 months of its life to level 2 RSPCA, or equivalent, obedience. At 12 months it can be assessed for its suitability. Not all dogs will be. Are you prepared to have a pet for life? Once deemed suitable the dog then starts specialised training to begin its life as your Therapy or Assistance Dog
